Top Five Social Media Marketing Strategies

#1 Content is still KING!

Quality content will grab the interest and keep your readers hooked on your social sites.  Remember to use organic keywords on sites with search functions, such as Twitter, so that your content is not only interesting, but also searchable.

#2 Listen to your customers

Use social media as a way to see what others are saying about your brand.  Ask questions on Facebook and be ready to respond.  Search your brand or industry and learn what your customers are complaining about or what they love!  Even doing a little research into what the competition is doing may help you get started.

#3 Get Social

Interacting with your followers is the best way to enrich your social media experience.  Not only will you be networking with potential clients or partners, but you will also be getting your information out there without continually shouting it to the world.

#4 Know your brand

Make sure the message you are sending out is consistent with your company’s brand.  Consider everything from the images posted to use of grammar and spelling before posting.  You never know who might read it, so make sure you know the message you are sending.

#5 Track and test your results

Most social media sites have some type of built in analytics.  USE IT!  Learn what is working for you and make a strategy based on what you find.  Make sure you are setting goals and then following through.  If your goal is to drive more traffic to your website, check your social sites’ analytics and compare to your Google Analytics to see if your efforts are indeed increasing your website traffic.  Look deeper into your results and see which posts were most effective. Tracking and testing is an ongoing process, so don’t give up.

Social Marketing

When we first started doing it at Tekcetera, I was apprehensive. I really didn’t see the total value. I looked at it as more of a marketing gimmick, something to make Tekcetera more “Hip”. But the more and more I dive into it and use it, the more I see its much greater potential. It’s a means to reach an audience that you may not normally do. Tweet this and post that, it all sounds kind of funny, but believe it or not, is widely used by growing companies. A guilty pleasure of mine and my wife is the show on ABC, Grey’s Anatomy. A couple of weeks ago they had an episode where Tweeting was occurring directly from the operating room. Now granted, this probably wouldn’t happen in real life, but look at it from a shear support perspective. The surgeons (not the ones performing the surgery) were tweeting and getting 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions, which ultimately led to a resolution to a problem that otherwise, would have normally resulted in the patient on the O.R. table losing their life. But due to this funny thing called a tweet, a vast knowledge base was tapped into and applied to their work. Take that simple principle and apply it to your business and I can almost guarantee that a positive result will be found. So don’t be so quick to dismiss Facebook, Twitter or any other form of social marketing. You will be surprised to find it in the oddest places and times.
